THE ghost of a headless woman roams the village wailing and screaming (though how a headless woman does that is unclear!) looking for her head. She was beaten by her husband and in revenge told villagers about his part in stealing geese and sheep. He was hanged at Carlisle for the crime. His father wrought revenge by decapitating the woman
